Photos of 'Oedipus and the Sphinx' scenes 1&2

In this scene the wind is pushing the farmer towards Oedipus who is the baby in the box. We were moving a lot as the wind does and our facial expressions were serious. Our voice was like a whisper, soft but strict. One of the thing we said was There is a baby and we kept saying that three times and then we gently pushed the farmer towards the baby.

In this scene the farmer had taken the baby to the king and queen of Corinth. The king and queen raised him up like the prince of Corinth.

1)What performance skills do you think you have developed in this Greek theatre unit? (eg. vocal projection, confidence, physical presence, characterization, vocal expression, body language, action gestures, dialogue etc) Be specific
1) I became more confident by doing this play. I got inspired by how the people in my group and people in other groups projected their voices.

2) Describe your favorite moment from one of your scenes and explain why you think it was effective for the audience.
2) My favorite scene was the oracle scene because it was scary and it was the most effective scene for the audience because we had practiced a lot for it and that was the scene with the most chorus work.

3) Describe one moment when you used dialogue to show you character.( What exactly did you say and how did you use your volume, pace, tone and pitch.)
3) In the 2nd scene I was a guard, and when the Shepard ( Amani) approached us, one of the lines I said was ''stop right there'', I had to say it loud and kind of low pitched because I was a guard.

4) Describe one moment when you used your body to show your character effectively. ( What exactly did you do, how were you positioned, did you use an action or a gesture?)
4) In the second scene I had a stick in my hand because I was a guard and I was positioned out side of the castle, and when the shepard came I had to stop her from entering the castle.

5) What specifically could your group have improved if you did the final performance of 'Oedipus  and the sphinx' again?
5) If we had to do the performance again we would have to add more lines for some characters  because some of them don't talk that much in the play.

6) Any other comments about the Greek theatre unit as a whole?
I learnt a lot about Greek theaters when we were doing the unit. I especially learnt a lot about Oedipus and the sphinx.

Lemony Snicket: A series of Unfortunate Events

- Which character are you playing in the photos and how did you use your body language, actions and gestures, or mannerisms to show your character to the audience? (give a specific example describing something you did with your body)
I was  playing the character of Violet, I had to look shocked because Count Olaf  was going to hit Klaus in the face. I had to stand still to show that I was really shocked to see that.
- What did you do with your voice to show your character? Did you change your tone? Pitch? Pace? Volume? Accent? Describe something you said saying how you said it.
I talked a little louder than I usually do to project my voice, and i had changed the tone of my voice a bit.

  1. Good, you have managed to answer most of the questions correctly using the resource I gave you. To get a higher grade you could think about expanding your answers and undertaking some of your own research to gather more information. 4/8 Criteria A

  2. 'Oedipus and the Sphinx' task:
Your first answer is a lot better than your second one because you have tried to answer the questions I set you on managebac. In order to get a high grade and demonstrate your knowledge and understanding you need o write in a lot more detail to explain your ideas. You should be describing how you used your body language to show your character much more specifically. You can also include dialogue examples for each answer, not just one. 3/8 Criteria A

  4. Reflection: Your reflection shows some thought, and you have tried to follow the guidelines I gave by talking about specific moments from your practical work. The video is fantastic evidence of your skills development and experiences in class. To get a higher grade you need to develop your answers further by writing in more detail about how you used your voice and body to communicate your character and to evaluate your success. Avoid all generalizations and make sure you are specific about improvements as well. 5/8 Criteria D.
